Hyderabad has 161 rain gauges inside the city. Most Indian cities are measured by one grid square.

161automatic weather stations with coordinates inside the Core Urban Region

The Telangana Development Planning Society publishes daily rainfall from individual automatic weather stations, each with its own coordinates, and 161 of them resolve inside Greater Hyderabad. Every other city on this platform infers rainfall from a single 0.25-degree grid cell roughly 28 km across. For a city whose flooding is intensely localised, that difference is the difference between seeing a storm and averaging it away.

Methodology & sources

Every number on this page is sourced from a publicly available dataset or official release. Live figures are refreshed daily from government monitoring feeds; annual figures show their vintage year; historical and structural figures are reference data with dated provenance.
