Madurai lake restoration
14 historic urban tanks have been fully built over - including the District Court complex (on Sengulam tank) and Madurai Corporation offices (on Tallakulam tank). Another 12 surviving tanks are severely reduced or encroached. Combined area lost: ~16.5 sq km (30% of the city). 15,000+ slum households now live on former tank beds.

Madras High Court, Madurai bench directed the TN Government to TN Govt to publish a public website listing ALL water bodies (with survey number, location, original/present extent) within 6 months. Petition filed over bund-road encroachment on tank beds at Thenkal Kanmoi, Vandiyur tank.
